This exhibition features the finest examples of Nepalese art from the RMA collection, highlighting the variety of forms and subjects, techniques and media that emerged from the creative matrix of the Kathmandu Valley.

Experience the wonders of The Arboretum as you spend ninety minutes walking with one of our knowledgeable Docents. Tours can be geared to the visitors' interests, and are offered most Wednesdays at 10:00 am. Other days and times of the week can be arranged with advance notice. Reservations are not required. Tours are free with Arboretum admission. Quest hiking trails are free. Quest Guidebooks are $5 at the Visitors Center and can be shared. Each Quest is an adventure and a search on trails that range from casual to challenging. Come to the Outdoor Discovery Center, entrance on Muser Drive, across from 174 Angola Road, Cornwall. The Museum's Quest Ranger will set you up and send you on your way.

Vendors will sell organic and non-organic fruits and vegetables, artisan breads and cheeses, jams, organic maple syrup products, organic and fair trade coffees, baked goods, balsamic vinegars and specialty olive oils, fresh homemade pastas and sauces, gluten-free products, pickles, hand-made natural soaps, fresh cut flowers and much more.

Central Park Bagel Bark is a free Central Park Conservancy/Central Park PAWS event that brings coffee, bagels and information about the Park to the Central Park Dog Owner Community. Come meet this vibrant neighborhood dog community and learn about dog friendly areas of Central Park and guidelines for enjoying the Park with your dog. The Bagel Bark travels each month to a different dog friendly area of Central Park.

'The Awesome 80s Prom' is a brand new interactive experience in the style of 'Tony and Tina's Wedding' and 'The Donkey Show' set at Wanaget High's Senior Prom... in 1989! All of your favorite characters from your favorite '80s movies are represented at the Prom, from the Captain of the Football Team to the Asian Exchange Student, from the Geek to the hottie Head Cheerleader, and they're all competing for Prom King and Queen. And just like on 'American Idol,' the audience gets to decide who wins! Come 'Back In Time,' to quote a Huey Lewis tune, and join the breakdance circle or just sit back and watch the '80s drama unfold. Come on, you know you have a Members Only jacket somewhere... and if you're lucky, they'll even let you dance with a cheerleader. Dressing up in '80s attire is definitely encouraged. After 'The Prom,' party all night at Webster Hall for free with each paid admission.

During the summer, Socrates hosts free informal sculpture classes on a drop-in basis for its young visitors. These workshops offer children the opportunity to engage in exciting sculpture and multi-media art making in an outdoor setting. Each workshop features a different activity taught by practicing artists.

Career Fair for Bay Area Military Veterans

Swords to Plowshares, a local veteran service agency, is hosting its third annual Veteran Career Fair. The Career Fair is free and open to any veteran who would like to learn more about training programs and job opportunities in the Bay Area.

"Veterans often have a difficult time transitioning the skills they learned while serving in the military into civilian jobs. At Swords to Plowshares we help veterans pursue job training programs, develop career goals and link them with local employers," said Dave Lopez, Director of Employment and Training at Swords to Plowshares.

In addition to job placement, Swords to Plowshares offers a variety of job training programs throughout the Bay Area at no cost to veterans. Recently, the community-based group was awarded more than one million dollars in funding to expand its employment and training programs to local veterans. Career Fair attendees can learn more about pursuing specialized job training programs in high-growth, high-wage industries, such as the clean energy sector.

The 1st Annual LA Skate Film Festival is kicking off tomorrow Tuesday August 31st, at the Downtown Independent Theater. Showings are starting at 2pm with the screenings of Santa Monica’s ZJ Boarding House video “ZVD” and New York skateboard documentary “Deathbowl to Downtown”.

The L.A. Skate Film Festival is the event the skateboard world has been waiting for. It will showcase a unique selection of the best skateboard movies since 2009, made by the widest range of filmmakers from all around the world. The films have been carefully reviewed and nominated by the Academy of Skateboard Filmmakers, whose members include Stacy Peralta, C.R. Stecyk, Grant Brittain, Fred Mortagne, Bryce Kanights, Ed Templeton, Ricki Bedenbaugh, Greg Hunt, Jamie Thomas, Ty Evans, and Geoff Rowley.

The theater will be screening the nominated skateboard films all afternoon on the 31st of August and 1st of September. An awards ceremony announcing the winning films will be held at The Music Box on September 2nd, 2010.

The LA Skate Film festival is also offering a couple panel discussions to all young local filmmakers as well as media and skateboarding brands. Experts in the field will be talking about 3D and Visual Effects Integration in Skateboard Filmmaking. The panels will be moderated by Steve Luther, Brand Marketing Manager at Converse and Greg Hunt, skateboard filmmaker/photographer. The panel will be held at the Downtown Independent Theater on Wednesday September 1st from 10am to 12pm. Entry is free to this event.

Screenings begin at 2pm on 08/31 and 09/01. Tickets are $12 per showing.
