Free calendars at 99 Cents Only Store

The 99 Cents Only store in Glendale at San Fernando and Sonora is giving away calendars. And, they're free! And, they're from this year, but a little work will turn them into 2007 or even universal calendars. Stick it to the calendar man by picking up a free calendar today.

Whether you can obtain the same deal at other locations is not known to this reporter.

OJR Journalism conference at USC March 3

Blogger conferences are usually junk (IMHO) and filled with people best kept a several keyboards worth of distance. Nevertheless, USC's Online Journalism Review will be conducting a free confab on March 3, 2006. Unfortunately, all the spots are filled up (or so they say, but they'll probably make room for Big Time Bloggers), but you can always sign up for their waiting list. Or, you can just hang around outside looking plaintively through the windows hoping they'll let you in.

Griffith Park: free and cheap

Griffith Park is one of the largest city parks in the world, and it has miles of hiking trails. All the parking is free, as are many of the activities you can engage in there: hike, bike, jog, watch stars, play soccer, or have a picnic. Other services may have a small fee such as attending the world famous Los Angeles Zoo or playing golf or tennis. There's a Merry-go-round, which may involve an admission charge. The baseball diamond may at least require an advance reservation.
