Posting Rules

Anyone can post here, you just need to follow a few rules:

  • This site is for discounts, bargains, freebies, and the like at bricks-and-mortar stores located in Los Angeles, New York City, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Chicago only. Please do not post Internet-only offers here.
  • You can post about offers at a business you work for, but don't post more than one such message per month. We also ask that you disclose your connection.
  • Excessively self-promotional postings will be deleted. Even worse, they might be retained so that we can make fun of them.
  • Please follow up your posts: if an offer ends, edit the post to indicate that.
  • Edit your profile: in the post, your URL will be linked to your name; if you don't provide a URL, only your name will be shown. Because of that, don't include your site in a signature block or similar.
  • Don't submit partial posts: "I have more information here". You're already getting one link, and if the information you provide is good, people will probably visit your site.
  • Please provide as much detail as possible: addresses, intersections, hours of operation, etc. etc.
  • No affiliate links.
  • For everyone's benefit, make use of the tagging system (described below).
  • By transmitting any posts, comments, or any other form of submission to PostYourTips.com you grant to PostYourTips.com its successors and assignees a nonexclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, sublicensable, perpetual license to reproduce, adapt, delete, distribute, transmit, create derivative works of, publicly display and publicly perform any materials and other information you submit.
  • Please do not post offers involving services, such as: lawyers, doctors, dentists, contractors, etc. The reason is that it's very difficult for the layman to determine beforehand whether such an offer is valuable or not. A $20 doctor visit might not be that good a deal if the doctor is about to lose his license. However, posting about a $5 flu shot would be acceptable because that is presumably fungible.

The tagging system

This site uses tags to help people find where an offer is, how good a value it is, and what type of goods are being offered.

For instance, a post about a Hollywood donut shop offering 10 cent donuts would be tagged with:

geo-hollywood, food, price-ultra-cheap

Then, someone searching for similar items could click on those tags to find your post.

When you post, please keep these tags in mind, and enter them in the box marked Tags on the posting screen right below the big Post box. As it says there, you separate tags with commas, and for multi-word tags you use dashes to separate each word of the tag. The example above is in that format.
